Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in English (39 credits)
The Bachelor of Arts degree in English emphasizes breadth and flexibility with three Study Options and a wide range of courses to choose from.
Study Option in English Language Arts (Curriculum Code 299)
This major is designed for students who want to teach English at the high
school level. A student who has received a B.A. in English (Study Option in
English Language Arts) will have met all the New York State subject area
requirements for English 7-12 certification. After completing an M.S.T. program
(in as few as three additional semesters), the student will be eligible for initial
certification and, after three years of experience teaching, professional
certification.

Study Option in Writing (Curriculum Code 776)
This major is designed for students who want to write. Major requirements allow students to focus on creative writing (such as poetry and fiction) or professional and technical writing (such as articles and reports).

This major is designed for students who want to pursue careers in fields requiring exceptional reading, writing, and interpretive skills, such as law, college teaching, publishing, editing, advertising, librarianship, and public relations.
