Graduate Fellowships

The Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Memorial Graduate Foundation Fellowship

The Melissa Lahtinen Penfield Memorial Graduate Foundation Fellowship, established in memory and honor of Melissa, is awarded each year to a new or returning full-time, male or female graduate student at State University of New York College at Plattsburgh. The graduate student needs to be enrolled in the Masters Program in Education and priority will be given to M.S.T. students.

The award is based on academic merit. Seton Catholic and Plattsburgh High School graduates will be given priority. Information from the applicant's graduate application file, including transcripts and letters of recommendations, will be used in the evaluation process.

A minimum annual award of $1,000 will be given to the selected fellowship recipient to apply to graduate tuition and fees only. Fellowship recipients are expected to maintain a 3.0 grade point average while taking at least 9 hours of graduate work per semester. If the recipient maintains this progress, he/she will be awarded the fellowship until the graduate degree is completed, up to a maximum of two years.

The Provost of SUNY Plattsburgh shall appoint a committee to advise in the selection of each year's recipient. The advisory committee shall include a member of the Lahtinen family.

Applicants should obtain an application form from the Financial Aid Office, 406 Kehoe, Graduate Admissions, 113 Kehoe, or Dean of Professional Studies, 400 Sibley Hall, and return the completed form to the Financial Aid office.
