Educational Leadership Programs at SUNY Plattsburgh

Prepare for a Successful Transition into School and/or District Leadership Positions

The educational leadership program's objectives are based on the knowledge and skills identified in the Educational Leadership Constituent Council Guidelines, the Policy Standards of the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC), and the Model Teacher Leader Standards. All programs build on your previous experience and graduate work. All three programs are offered exclusively at the SUNY Plattsburgh at Queensbury campus.

Teacher Leadership

The teacher leadership program provides opportunities to serve as an instructional leader within your school without having to fully leave the classroom. You will have the chance to get a head start on your administrative licensure coursework. Most significantly, you will develop the skills and understandings necessary for schools to effectively distribute leadership beyond the school principal. School Building Leader

The SBL program enables you to qualify for a New York State Administrative Certificate at the building (SBL certificate) level. You will gain skills through projects involving implementing school change through professional development, annual professional performance review of classroom teachers, evaluation of teaching and learning using student assessment data, and core-value leadership peer and self-assessments. School District Leader

After completing the SBL program, you can earn the SDL certificate by completing of an additional semester internship experience. Learn more about the school district leader program.
