Meet One of Our Students
Jane Arseneault, Senior
Jane Arseneault, from Plattsburgh, New York, is majoring in Childhood Education with a concentration in Social Studies.
The Professors Genuinely Care about My Success
The professors are available for you and are regularly around for extra help. Dr. Anneliese Mueller has a great attitude and really got my classmates and me excited about getting into the schools to teach. Her in-class activities were so enlightening, and her advice about children's in-school behavior was excellent.
One of the things I learned is that Plattsburgh State has a great anthropology department. To fulfill my social studies concentration I have taken three cultural anthropology courses. Dr. Deborah Altamirano is one of the best instructors I've ever had. Her class in Latin American Cultures was fascinating. I know I will be a better teacher because of my anthropology classes. I am much more aware and interested in learning about other cultures, and I can't wait to explore different cultures with my students.
Age Differences are No Barrier to Friendship
I've realized that most people in the education department - staff and students - are a very friendly group.
As a non-traditional student who isn't on campus much, I was a little surprised at all of the friendships I established at Plattsburgh State. Like most others, education majors share the same classes so every one is pretty recognizable from class to class.
After returning to school two years ago, I will graduate from Plattsburgh State in May. Truthfully, there have been a couple of stressful days where I questioned that decision. But, overwhelmingly, I am glad I have stuck with it to achieve my goal.
