Criminal Justice Faculty - Robert Harsh

Adjunct Lecturer

Mr. Harsh is a counselor in the college's Educational Opportunity Program (E.O.P.) and is an adjunct sociology instructor. His teaching assignments for the department have included Introduction to Sociology, Sociology of Religion, Self in Society, and a junior/senior seminar on religion and social change. He is an honors graduate of Princeton University (A.B.) and Union Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and, before moving to this current position in 1987, taught social work and sociology at Clinton Community College. His professional experience also includes 14 years as a human services professional, including three years as executive director of the local crisis center.

Mr. Harsh also teaches topical seminars for the college's Honors Program and has published articles on gender inclusion in curricula and teaching methods and on the experiences of Jamaican migrant workers in local apple orchards. In 1987 he received a Faculty Appreciation Award from the Student Life Committee at Clinton Community College and in 1996 the Distinguished Faculty Award of Phi Eta Sigma, the freshman honor society at SUNY Plattsburgh. In August 2000 his work as an E.O.P. counselor was recognized with the SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Professional Service.

In his spare time, Harsh is an avid sailor, swimmer, golfer, and skier. He and his wife, Carole, a housing program coordinator, are the parents of two children and "commute" to work from their "deep rural" home in the Adirondacks.
