Communication Studies Faculty — Colleen Lemza

Assistant Professor

Professor Colleen Lemza in her office. A '90 graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, Colleen Pope-Lemza received her Master's in Public Relations from the Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University. She's new to the Center for Communication and Journalism here at SUNY Plattsburgh, having recently joined as a full-time assistant professor in Fall, 2008. She comes to us from more than a decade in the corporate world handling various facets of public relations for International Paper. Her experience range covers both internal and external relations specializing in crisis communication, labor relations, employee relations, building cohesive community partnerships, large-scale event planning, and public affairs and environmental lobbying. She has worked both at the facility level directly with plant operations, and the corporate level, focusing on relations management.

Colleen has also worked in the non-profit world specializing in fund-raising and print publicity. She has taught communications courses in both public speaking and public relations for the past several years before becoming an assistant professor with the center.

Colleen is a member of the Public Relations Society of America and a member of the PRSA Educator's Academy. She is involved in the marketing committee for Seton Academy and is on the Turner Trust Board.

Colleen also obtained a second master's degree in mental health counseling and has experience in crisis and grief counseling. She is happy to be able to work with students to apply classroom and textbook learning to the business world.
