Public Relations/Organizational Communication Major
Public Relations/Advertising Concentration
The Public Relations/Advertising concentration is your gateway into the marketing and promotional communications professions. This concentration provides you with the tools to become an effective communications professional, delivering a solid foundation in communication theory and practice - from understanding the marketing mix to laying out the communication plan. You will come away with a strong working knoweldge of both the advertising and public relations functions in business and the media.
You will gain important hands-on skills in the areas of advertising copy writing, public relations writing, audience and constituency analysis, campaign preparation and execution, creative decision-making, print and electronic media planning and selection, and crafting and evaluating messages.
In addition to productive time spent in the classroom, this concentration gives you a number of occasions to work directly and intensively on real-world communication projects for organizations in the larger community. The program also includes substantial internship opportunities in advertising and public relations both regionally and nationally.
Organizational/Leadership Communication Concentration
The Organizational/Leadership Communication concentration gives you the tools you need to become an effective communicator and leader. This concentration is your starting point for a wide range of careers in both the private and public sectors, preparing you for success in a variety of professional leadershiop environments in business, government and the media.
Once you have completed this concentration, you will be ready for the opportunities and challenges of a career in administration and management, politics and public service, human resources, and consulting, and more.
You will develop successful habits and proficiencies in writing, speaking, and communicating in all sorts of situations. You will build powerful interpersonal skills that are at the core of successful leadership abilities and at the heart of your productive membership in the workplace, community, and the world.
