Placement Information

English Requirement for School of Business and Economics (SBE) Students

All students must take the English placement examination before they can register for ENG101, a general education requirement for all students. Note: Please take this exam very seriously.

Exceptions:

Transfer students or first-year students who already have college credit for ENG 101 with a grade of C or better from an accredited college or university do not need to take the placement exam. The official transcript of this credit must be on file in the admissions office and the credit will appear on your transcript and CAPP (Curriculum Advising and Program Planning) report.

Math Requirement for SBE Students:

All SBE majors must complete CALCULUS 1 (SUNY Plattsburgh ID number MAT 221 or MAT 224).

Placement Information:

Students must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Have a score of 460 for SAT or 16 for ACT to bypass the MAT placement test.

  2. Passed the MAT placement exam at SUNY Plattsburgh given at the beginning and end of each semester.

  3. Received transfer credit for CALCULUS 1 from an accredited college or university. The official transcript of this credit must be on file in the admissions office and the credit will appear on your transcript and CAPP report.

Foreign Language Requirement:

All SBE students entering SUNY Plattsburgh fall 2005 as a first year student must complete two (2) levels of a foreign language.

Placement Information:

Students must meet one of the following requirements:

  1. Students who completed three years or more of a single language in high school are NOT permitted to register for level one (1) of that language. (ex. SPA 111) They must register for level two (2) or as an example SPA 112 or SPA 150 (which is an intense review). Both of these courses will satisfy the general education language requirement.

  2. Students who have received college credit for a foreign language from an accredited college or university will have that transfer credit posted on their transcript. The official transcript of this credit must be on file in the admissions office and the credit will appear on your transcript and CAPP report.

Taking the placement exam is best!
