What inspires you?

Where else can you study magazine journalism, museum studies, ethics and social philosophy — or major in digital media? SUNY Plattsburgh has all this and more. You can even craft a program of study entirely your own.

Studying arts and humanities here, you will learn the basics, then pursue your own interests and ideas. You may even intern with museums, graphic design firms or TV networks like MTV, NBC News, Nickelodeon and ESPN.

In music, you will take classes ranging from music technology to world music, and take part in concerts throughout the year. Meanwhile, theater students take courses on stagecraft, dramatic history, and literature while preparing for plays and musicals.

English majors may read Shakespeare, Milton, Margaret Atwood, and Alice Munro; hone their craft, writing poetry, novels, or nonfiction; and work on the student literary magazine or international journal.

French and Spanish majors gain a solid foundation in the language, then may travel to South America, take part in the French Film Festival or practice skills just over the border in Québec.

And in English, French or Spanish, you can lay the groundwork for a teaching career through our unique Bachelor of Arts/Master of Science in Teaching program.

Scene from ‘The Lion King’ play

Last November, SUNY Plattsburgh music major Germaine Wilson was working at home in Trinidad and Tobago when she decided to take a day off to audition for “The Lion King.”

She had low expectations. Really, she just wanted professional feedback from people outside her home country. But in April, her mother told her that Disney called.
