Our Anthropology Major Allows You To:

• Benefit from a 36 credit major that allows flexibility in structuring desired courses, and encourages strong academic connections to allied fields.
• Complement your major in other fields with our 18 credit minor in cultural anthropology.
• Explore the past with our 18-22 credit, multi-disciplinary minor in archaeology. The archaeology minor can be pursued in conjunction with the anthropology major.
• Learn from faculty strongly commitment to quality instruction and advisement. Department faculty includes two Distinguished Teaching Professors and four recipients of the Chancellor's Award for Teaching Excellence.

Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Anthropology (120 credits)

The Bachelor of Arts in anthropology currently requires 36 academic credits of course work (12 courses), at least 27 of which must be derived from anthropology courses.

The program requires two introductory courses normally taken in one's Freshman year, one methods-oriented course selected from physical anthropology, archaeology and linguistics, one cultural area course, two dimensions of culture courses, a world issues course, an advanced writing course centered on ethnographic methods, and a senior project or seminar.

Nine credits (3 courses) are also required which are to be aimed at the student's career objectives, and decided in consultation with one's academic advisor. These courses may be additional anthropology courses, or may courses associated with an academic minor, another major, an internship or study-abroad experience, or independent study projects.
