Fieldwork Opportunities
Archaeology
The anthropology department periodically offers a local summer field course (6 credits) in historical archaeology. The past 4 offerings were at the Clintonville, N.Y., Iron Forge site, 25 miles south of Plattsburgh, and were followed up with an optional lab seminar on artifact analysis of materials from the site in the fall semester.

Students with a desire for first-hand experience in archaeology are encouraged to seek out a field course that best coincides with their interests. Students have taken summer field courses at other institutions in the U.S., Peru, and Ecuador, and had the academic credit transferred to SUNY Plattsburgh.

Do It!
We strongly encourage our anthropology students to gain first-hand experience with the world's cultural and ethnic diversity and heritage as much as possible while with us as undergraduates.
The department annually receives many notices of a wide variety of summer and semester-abroad opportunities that are posted and made available to students.
Our faculty, as advisors, assist students in exploring and pursuing such options, whether it be primate field study abroad, an ethnographic field school in the southwest, or a semester at a university in a country such as England or Chile.
