Clintonville Forge Project Virtual Tour - Another Forge

Uncovering Another Forge

Three students proudly showing their completed excavation This bloomery forge was adjacent to the one shown on the previous page, but all of its firebox plates had been removed and stacked at the front of the forge during dismantlement. The excavation by Maggie, Mark, and RuthAnne revealed the air-blast opening to the firebox, as well as sections of the blast pipes themselves (left of the forge). The heavy, water-cooled bottom plate found outside the forge has been generously donated by the site owner to the Adirondack Museum in Blue Mountain Lake.
