ADX - Getting Involved

It's Easy

No matter who you are or what you're interested in or where you're coming from, Plattsburgh State has a way for you to get involved in exploring the recreational opportunities of our region. And you can get credit for doing it!

When you register for courses each semester, you can enroll in sea kayaking, or rock climbing, or ice climbing, or free-heel skiing just like you register for American History. By the way, we supply all equipment necessary for participating in our adventure classes.

You can enroll in rock climbing and sea kayaking for fall semester. During the spring, we offer classes in free-heel skiing, ice climbing and rock climbing. Between semesters, you can get certified as a Wilderness First Responder and in the summer you can join us for The Lake Champlain Sea Kayak Institute.

In addition to curriculuar opportunities, you might want join The Outing Club, an enthusiastic and active group of students who plan weekly adventures, arrange special events, and take at least one annual event - a Hudson River gorge raft trip.

Maybe you think of yourself - for now - as an armchair enthusiast, or maybe you get motivated by knowing what people are doing in the outdoors all over the world. If this is you, you'll want to pay attention to announcements about adventure speakers coming to campus. We've heard talks about climbs of Everest, mountain bike expeditions, ski descents in China, rock climbing and kayaking. Stay tuned for future events. And don't miss The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour in February.

Want to take your own trip. Check out Rent-a-venture, our year-round rental program. We have an extensive and growing inventory of equipment, ready for your next adventure.

Get Involved!

If you're an entering student, the alternative freshman orientation option, the Odyssey Program, is something to consider. If you're an experienced outdoorsperson, you might be interested in helping lead this exciting summer program.
