Plattsburgh State Program Profile - Adventure Lecture Series
Wild Island of Hope
This year's exciting Adirondack Experience Adventure Lecture Series opens with a presentation by Gary Randorf, author, photographer, and environmentalist.
Randorf, who has traveled the world photographing the earth's wild places, will be presenting on a new collection of his work, The Adirondacks: Wild Island of Hope, published in June 2003.
In the foreword to the book, Bill McKibben describes how Randorf captures the Adirondacks - in "a glory carefully revealed in the words and pictures" - as "a second-chance wilderness and, as such, a hope that the damage caused by human beings is not irreversible. It is metaphor as much as place."
Spending his semi-retirement between the Adirondacks and New Zealand, Randorf has had one-person shows at The Lake Placid Center for the Arts, The Adirondack Museum, and the Rochester Museum and Science Center.
In 1994, Randorf was honored with a retrospective exhibit at Plattsburgh State's Meyers Fine Arts Gallery. He has also served as Executive Director and then Senior Counselor for The Adirondack Council.
Mr. Randorf will also be available for book signing.
