Over the weekend, alumni were encouraged to send photos to be posted on our Facebook page.
In addition, alumni were also invited to tell their stories on video. In the near future, these clips will be downloaded to the college's YouTube channel.
Class of 1959 Golden Anniversary Celebration
One of the highlights of Homecoming has been the opportunity to pay tribute to our newest members of the Golden Anniversary Club – alumni who graduated 50 years ago or more. This year, the Class of 1959 was celebrated through a series of special events, including a "pop quiz" given by President John Ettling. In it,he recited lines from songs that were famous during the graduates’ college years, and alumni had to shout out the song and artist.
Judy Duken '59 was surprised to receive the Robert Garrow Alumni Service Award. Nominated by her friend and fellow alumna Dodie Giltz, Duken gave an emotional acceptance speech and encouraged everyone to continue supporting their alma mater in every way that they can.
For next year, these class gatherings will be moved to a summer Reunion, which will offer classes the opportunity to return to the area during the warm season and enjoy all that the area has to offer in terms of summer recreation.
EOP 40th Anniversary Gala
The Educational Opportunity Program is a state-funded college admission and academic support program for students who have faced academic, personal and economic challenges but have the motivation and potential for success in college.
Director Michele Carpentier and Associate Director Kyla Relaford commemorated the 40th anniversary of EOP at the college and celebrated the program's long, proud and successful history through a Gala, held Friday night. The event attracted a large crowd and featured keynote speaker Dominic Carter, author of "No Momma's Boy: How I Let Go of My Past and Embraced the Future."
EOP alumna Pam Hewitt '74 shared the podium with Carter. In conjunction with the anniversary celebration, she received a Distinguished Visiting Alumni award and earlier in the day gave a talk to current students, titled "Your Passion and Your Career Journey."

In addition to EOP graduates, other groups of alumni gathered to celebrate and reminisce, including ones from the honors, nursing and Canadian studies programs, as well as student nurse teachers from the Class of 1964.
Game On!
What would Homecoming be without a generous helping of friendly competition? Alumni and current students geared up for a series of games including ice hockey, basketball, lacrosse and baseball. More than a few also laced up for a Race Against Cancer Benefit. Students and alumni sprinted through Rugar Woods for a good cause.
In addition to alumni games, current students in volleyball, basketball and hockey had their work cut out for them in regular season games. For instance, the highly anticipated Cardinal hockey season was getting underway during Homecoming weekend with an exhibition game versus Concordia University of Montreal. The men's team has a lot of new talent this year and fans are going to turn out in large numbers to get a glimpse of what's on tap for this year.
